
This is an original 1947 monochrome in-text lithograph of the Old Indian Chapel at the village of Tadoussac in the province of Quebec, Canada. The building has the distinction of being the oldest wooden church in North America. This piece was illustrated by Oakley, Thornton. Thornton Oakley(1881-1953) Thornton Oakley was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in architecture. He also studied illustration with Howard Pyle. He was best known for his depiction of industrial subjects. OakleyĆs work appeared in numerous books and magazines, including Harper's, The Century, Collier's, and Everybody's Magazine. His paintings are in the collections of many museums.
